Boarding

IMPORTANT UPDATE – Due to an outbreak of canine influenza in Michigan in 2018 (not at Lucky Dog). We require that all dogs have completed the series of 2 flu vaccines. We have required the flu vaccine since June of 2015 and will continue to update our requirements as needed.

Your dog will enjoy fun, safe, social play with constant supervision from experienced staff members. We have nearly 10,000 sq feet of playrooms. Each room inside and outside has play equipment and active friends waiting for your high-energy pup to join them. Don’t have a high-energy pooch? Sedentary and overweight dogs can get healthier just by coming to daycare.

Before starting daycare every dog is required to pass a temperament test.  Temperament tests are done every day 7 days a week between the hours of 10:30 am-12:00noon and 1:30 pm-3:30 pm. No appointment is needed. dogs are allowed to play in daycare any day of the week. Which playroom your dog will play in depends on their breed, size, personality, and activity level. At Lucky Dog, all dogs receive ALL DAY daycare. Dogs are welcome to play all day from open to close.

Unlike other daycares, unless requested by owners or due to aggressive behavior, no pets receive a “break time” or are required to spend time in a kennel. Here at Lucky Dog, we have fun all day long! “Of course the play areas all have quiet corners and comfy beds for those canine cuties that need a little snooze time”. With holiday parties and social events throughout the year Lucky Dog can be your Best Friends home away from home, so get ready for some fun!

What wouldn’t we do for your best friend?

A stay at Lucky Dog Luxury Boarding is like checking into a fancy, all-inclusive hotel.

At Lucky Dog we provide all our guests with spacious, luxurious suites. Pets play all day and are only in their own room at night for eating and sleeping. Rooms for dogs range in size from 5×4 all the way up to 5×15. Our accommodations include comfortable, off the floor, easy on canine joints, Kuranda bedding, bowls, treats, blankets for snuggling and lots of TLC. At night, all pampered pets enjoy the sounds of classical, calming music, specifically arranged for dogs and clinically proven to sooth and reduce anxiety.  All rooms are the same price and include daycare. All our services are provided for every pet at the same cost. We do not have any a’ la cart services. There are no additional fees for special treatments. All our guests receive the same amount of quality, loving care by our experienced staff.

Please note the following requirements for adult dogs

  • All dogs older than 7 months must be spayed or neutered
  • All vaccinations must be current – age-appropriate including:
  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough)-Required EVERY 6 months
  • Negative Stool Test-Required EVERY 6 months
  • Leptospirosis- Series of 2 vaccines given 3 -4 weeks apart.  Dogs must complete the series of 2 before starting daycare or boarding.    Required yearly
  • K9 Influenza-Required yearly (This is a separate flu vaccination and not included in the DHPP)
  • Rabies every 3 years,
  • DHPP every 3 years,
  • We strongly recommend but not require Heartworm test yearly and preventative every month.
  • We also strongly recommend flea and tick preventative.
  • All dogs must be able to play nice with others in a group setting.
  • Temperament tests are required prior to daycare and boarding and will ensure your dog’s ability to play during their stay. The test is a 5-10 minute meet and greet with another dog, away from the owners. Tests are done 7 days a week from 10:30am to 12pm and 1:30pm to 3:30pm. No appointment is needed. All temperament tests are free of charge.

Please note the following requirements for puppies

  • Puppies must be at least 10 weeks of age and have the following vaccines:
  • Pups must have a series of Leptospirosis vaccines.  It is a series of 2 vaccines given 3 – 4 weeks apart.  Pups must complete the series of 2 before starting daycare or boarding.
  • Pups must have at least a series of two DHPP vaccines. These vaccines are usually given every 3 weeks until puppies reach 16-18 weeks.
  • Bordetella Vaccine for Kennel cough. Bordetella can be given like nose drops as an intranasal vaccine, as an oral vaccine squirted in the mouth or as a regular injectable vaccine. If receiving the injectable vaccine, puppies are required to complete the series of 2 prior to starting at Lucky Dog. All Bordetella vaccines are required every 6 months.
  • Pups must also have a series of influenza vaccines. It is a series of 2 vaccines given 2-4 weeks apart. Pups must complete the series of 2 before starting daycare or boarding.
  • A Negative Stool sample every 6 months is also required.
  • Rabies vaccines can be given after 16 weeks and are required by 6 months.
  • The most veterinarian recommended optimal time to socialize a puppy is between 8-12 weeks. It becomes more difficult with each week after that. Daycare helps shy & submissive dogs by building their confidence. Daycare also helps rambunctious puppies get tired by releasing pent up energy. At Lucky Dog puppies may start to attend daycare or boarding as early as 10 weeks of age as long as they have had 2 DHPP vaccines, 2 Lepto vaccines, 2 Flu vaccines, a Bordetella vaccine to help prevent Kennel Cough, and a negative fecal check. Our other vaccine requirements for Rabies, is dependent upon the age and size of each puppy. Start your puppy early, help them grow up to become a confident and friendly canine companion.

Please note the following requirements for cats

  • All cats older than 7 months are required to be spay or neutered.
  • All vaccinations must be current-age appropriate including:
  • FDRC-every 3 years
  • Rabies every 3 years
  • Negative Stool Test-required EVERY 6 months
  • Negative Feline Leukemia/Feline AIDS Test
  • We also strongly recommend flea and tick preventative.

Please inform us if your pet has a food allergy. If your pet is on a prescription diet or more comfortable eating a raw or homemade diet we are more than happy to prepare it as long as you provide it for us. Pets staying overnight usually need a reservation. Please contact us ahead of your intended stay to be sure we have openings.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Boarding

Do bring your playful pup for a fun sleepover.

Do arrive before 10:00 am so they may play in daycare. Pets arriving after 10am will not be in daycare until the following day. New dogs, on their first day, should arrive with in an hour of our opening.

Do bring any needed medication. Please inform us if medication instructions from you, do not match what is on the prescription label. Please know the names of each medication, especially if you are not bringing the original prescription bottle. Please bring enough medication, plus a few extra days, in case your time away is extended. Emergencies do happen and pets sometimes stay longer than expected.

Do bring you pet’s own food. We also have food here at no charge but we prefer they eat their own diet to avoid any intestinal upset.

Do bring any special instructions for medications or food preparations.

Do bring treats to be given in their own room.

Do label all your pets belongings. Re: food bags, leash, collar etc.

Do let us know if your pet may be anxious during over night boarding and if it is ok for us to give them a calming treat made from natural ingredients.

Don’t bring everything your pet owns, plus the kitchen sink.

Don’t bring beds or blankets, We have enough for everyone.

Don’t bring food bowls, we have hundreds of them.

Don’t bring measuring cups, like bowls, we have lots.

Don’t bring more than 1-2 toys. Boarding pets play all day in daycare, then in the evening they go into their own room to eat and sleep. Pets eat, relaxing music comes on, the lights go out and everyone is quiet and asleep. Usually there is no time or want for toys.

Don’t bring hard bones or rawhides for your pet to chew on at night. Chew toys like antlers, hard plastic Nyla bones and real bones are all harder than your dog’s actual teeth. Chewing such hard bones causes them to fracture their large molars and damage the roots of their chewing teeth. This can cause expensive dental issues. We do not recommend giving rawhides while boarding. They are a choking hazard if dogs are not supervised.

Do know that we strive to provide your pet with a safe healthy, fun environment every time they come for boarding, daycare, grooming or training.
